Republican Brock Weber drops out of Secretary of the State race

Republican Brock Weber has withdrawn his candidacy for Secretary of the State.

Weber, who announced he was dropping out of the race on Facebook, could not be reached for comment on Saturday.

“I regret to inform you that our campaign has come to an end,” Weber wrote in the Facebook post on Thursday. “I am officially withdrawing as a candidate for Secretary of the State. With less than a month to go until the August primary, it has become obvious that we do not have a realistic path forward.

“This decision is made with a heavy heart. But it is what is best for my family, our campaign, and our party. I look forward to supporting the nominated slate in November and wish them well.”

Weber was headed toward an Aug. 9 Republican primary election against Dominic Rapini and Terrie Wood.

Brock is the executive aide to New Britain Republican Mayor Erin Stewart.

He has a long history of being involved with Republican politics.

In 2013, Brock pursued a career in professional campaign management and political consulting. He has overseen several competitive local and statewide races.

Brock was a legislative aide to Connecticut Senate Republican Caucus, strategist to the Senate Republican Campaign Committee and as a political/corporate communications specialist for Spectrum Marketing Companies Inc. based in Manchester, N.H.

Brock, who lives in Wolcott, is a former member of the New Britain Republican Town Committee and former member of the Bristol Republican Town Committee.
