TOYS FOR GIVING: TOY DRIVE

Brooklyn Parks & Recreation will be accepting donations for our annual Toys for Giving Toy Drive beginning November 1st. New, unwrapped toys or other suitable gifts may be dropped off at the Recreation Office or the Town Hall. Cash donations are welcome. Make checks payable to Brooklyn Parks & Recreation. With many families finding themselves in financial need again this year, we are anticipating a large request for assistance. Children wishing to receive a letter from Santa may reach him by sending a letter beginning

November 1st with their name and return address to:

 Santa c/o Santa's Elves

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COAT DRIVE

The Knights of Columbus will once again hold their annual Coat Drive at the Clifford B. Green Building’s Community Meeting Room. (This is the same building our Parks & Recreation Dept is located in.) This Coat Drive is held on Friday, November 26th from 9:00am-noon. More info about this drive will be located on our website as the date gets closer. PARKS & REC DOES NOT HANDLE OR PRESENT THIS COAT DRIVE. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WILL BE IN CHARGE OF THIS PROGRAM AND ARE THE ONES WITH MORE INFO CONCERNING IT. We will not have details until they release a flyer to us, later this fall. We will post this flyer on our website and Facebook page, when it becomes available.

COOKBOOK PROJECT

This project is still ongoing… we just have not received enough recipes to complete this book. We are still looking for your most beloved family recipes, to include in a Park and Recreation cookbook. Once completed we hope to offer them at a nominal fee, with proceeds going towards our Jim Boyle Campership Fund. We will be collecting recipes and creating a simple, printed in-house recipe book.

But we need your help…

Please email us your family favorite recipe/s. We need all recipes sent to us at j.lohbusch@brooklynct.org, in a word document, so we can format after receiving them. We are hoping to highlight Brooklyn residents and their families in our department cookbook. Thanks so much for your support!

This is a fun way to get the family involved in a community activity and then share the finished project with friends and family. A sample format is available on our department website.

FEARGROUNDS – HAUNTED HOUSES & MORE!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS, STAFF MEMBERS AND ALL THOSE THAT ATTENDED!

WE HAD SO MUCH FUN PRESENTING THIS EVENT TO OUR AREA RESIDENTS!

After a year without Spooky Nights, we are returning with a new, and equally bone-chilling event – FEARGROUNDS! This event will be held on Friday, October 15th and Saturday, October 16th, at the Brooklyn Fairgrounds. Come join us for some chills and thrills this fall, as we introduce you to 2 Haunted Houses! Visitors will be guided on a walk to the first “house” and after surviving that ghostly visit will continue on to the next house, even bigger and scarier!

Afterwards, enjoy some time near the bonfire and visit one of our food vendors for a snack or drink to recover from your spine-tingling time inside the haunted house. Listen to the DJ and check out our nightly entertainers.

And don’t forget to purchase a t-shirt, after you survive FEARGROUNDS!

Price for entry into FEARGROUNDS will be $10.00 per person. Purchase yours at Hurme TV & Appliance, Danielson Surplus, Hank's Restaurant, WINY Radio and our office. Cash only at all ticket venues except our office. Our office can accept checks and credit/debit cards. (2.5% service fee for card transactions is accessed by processing company) CASH only at gate and at our office beginning October 11th.

Fairgrounds open at 5:00pm each evening for ticket sales. Bonfire area and vendors open at 5:00pm. Guided walks to the Haunted Houses will begin at 6:00pm. You must enter at the corral area/ticket area only, for the Haunted Houses. If you visit the bonfire area/vendors prior to your trip to the Haunted Houses, you will return to the ticket booth area to get into line. Ticket sales and gates will close at 9:00pm.  FEARGROUNDS will close to all, after the last “tour” finishes the haunted houses. $5.00 bonfire area entrance fee also available. NO one will be allowed into either “house” without a ticket.  Tickets are limited to 2000 per night, to experience the Haunted House FEARGROUNDS Encounter!

Both houses will contain traditional Halloween themed scenes and characters and may not be suitable for some children. Please use your discretion when purchasing tickets. No refunds are given for purchased tickets.
